A group of Stourbridge actors with learning difficulties were honoured with a prestigious award after performing their latest play at a theatre festival.

Side by Side Theatre Group, based at Stourbridge College, received the Peter Mellor Trophy for the most original play at the Worcester Theatre Festival earlier this month.

Members are hoping to take the play, called The Wrong Garden, to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August.

Actress Sarah Field, who plays Aida in the story, was also nominated for best Actress. Susan Wallin, artistic director for the group, said "The festival formed part of the All England Theatre Festival which featured performances from groups based across the country," she said. "It is a massive achievement to have won the award and we are very proud. All of the students have worked hard to perfect the performance."

People will get the chance to see the play when it is staged at Stourbridge town hall on June 23th and 24th.

The group is still looking for donations to send the group to the Fringe Festival. Call Susan on 01384 344603
