Side By Side is an independent theatre company giving learning disabled actors,
who have trained in Performing Arts, the opportunity to work as actors and
dancers in a professionally run group.
All of our production team are experienced theatre practitioners; they, along
with all our supporters, give their time voluntarily.
We have no regular funding, but are grateful to Stourbridge Rotary Club and the Freemasons Lodge of Worcestershire for their continued support and to all those people and organisations who have helped us through grants and sponsorship.
The members of Side By Side contribute to the devising of their own shows, which
includes mime, dance, physical theatre and dialogue with recorded music and sound effects.
We use popular culture stereotypes and themes to make traditional tales and myths relevant for today. These stories do not focus on the actor’s learning disability but, hopefully, prompt us to think about shared problems of how human beings cope with the many challenges caused by our conflicting interests, desires, passions and beliefs, which are part our humanity, whoever we are.
